Business Success and Failure
One of our House Cleaning Success Platinum Membership site members is working very hard to grow her house cleaning business. She’s working her way through the growing pains associated with finding workers for her business. Finding good employees and subcontractors is the hardest part of being a business owner. Every business is encumbered with this issue - not just the cleaning industry.
To make it even harder, she’s located in a city that is sparsely populated and still growing. Naturally, she’s frustrated and going through “can I really do this?” thinking. This is the critical time for any business owner….fighting your way through the barrier that stands between success and failure.
These barriers are a natural part of owning a business. Sometimes I think they’re a test from the universe to see how much you really want to succeed. After all, if it was easy, everyone would be successful and be a millionaire! While we’re fighting to break through the barrier, thoughts of giving up and “is this really worth it?” resonates on a daily basis.
Success or Failure?
The successful person will finally realize how hard he/she has worked to get to this point and find a way to resolve the issue that is the barrier. It may not be easy; it may not come as fast as he/she wants. Just the act of willing yourself forward and keeping the vision of what you need to resolve the issue will finally break you through the barrier. Your business life will now be working until the next barrier is presented.
The person that fails to reach success is the person that is not willing to work for it. The success stories you hear and read about successful people make it seem so easy. Remember that the story is being told in hindsight and which now appears bright and shiny. I am telling you this from experience - it wasn’t easy for me and it wasn’t easy for others. WE did it and can now share our success with you. If you quit - you fail, it’s that simple.
Don’t ever think growing a business and achieving business success is easy. It takes:
- A vision
- A plan
- Hard work
- Rinse
- Repeat
Let successful people help you by sharing their knowledge, but don’t ever envy what they have achieved. You can do it too - just listen and do it.
Have you encountered any barriers to success? What did you do to break through?

Barriers yes, I live in a small town in the south and apparently there are many nickel and dime individual persons out there cleaning entire homes for $40 and $50 …..
Its been a struggle to continue this business where I live with this going on. As much as people appreciate a professional cleaner that is licensed, insured and even where’s a uniform they are having a hard time paying (rough range) $115 for their home to be professionally cleaned…. I think that success also depends where you are located….
Thank you,

Yes, I totally agree with Janet. I see adds all the time for a $40 or $50 dollar clean. Every where you turn the trunkslammers are there. I really try to ignore these types of people and press on. There are people who will pay ,just targeting them is the trick. This is where I am at. One thing I have found as far as referrals from your cheap customers, begets more cheap customers. Finding and targeting the right customer is where I am right now.

This is the normal intrigue of business - it happens in every industry. Someone ALWAYS comes along to under price you. The challenge is to find a way to compete.
Do you really think those $40 and $50 cleans last? Some of their clients get tired of always having to tell them what to do and clean behind them. Eventually they come looking for you.
Tonya is correct - finding and targeting the right customer is where the money is. If you can’t find them, find out what people in your city want and give it to them.
Your cheaper competition will never go away. Find a way to take them out by offering better cleaning or better offers. Business is a challenge and your job is to win!
